The concept hurts more because your mind fools you into believing things will hurt worse then they actually do. Once you get hurt, it's done and you can look back and think, well that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I would have to say the actual pain. Ever brake your arm are leg?
Sometime though the concept of pain is not as bad as the pain it self, but then on the other hand sometime the actula pain is worse than the concept.

in my opinion, it would have to be the concept of pain... actual pain hurts, but its not the pain inflicted that upsets people, its the destruction/damage/affliction/loss that triggers the self pity-- which is what really hurts... just the thought that you are somewhat wronged hurts.

Anticipation of pain can last for days, weeks, months... a lot of times the actual pain only lasts for a matter of seconds (dentist).
