Pele was right to describe football (soccer) as the "Beautiful Game". Reputable coaches like Brazil's Pereira, Portugal's Scolari, England's Eriksson all rubbish it saying "winning is everything". From what I've seen in Germany so far, it's a far cry from "the beautiful game". Perhaps the majority of Americans are right all along - "The Boring Game" you feel?

Overall, except for a few matches , it was the most boring world cup ever.

It's no longer 'The Beautiful Game'. And it is completely wrong to say it's 'The Boring Game'.

Germany 2006 has been amazingly wonderful. The games have almost been played in the right spirit. The fans have been terrific. And not at all rowdy or uncivilized. You can't get upset over small things like foul tackles and deliberate dives. I know it is wrong, but it has always been part of the game.

Germany V Italy game was played in great spirit. No foul mood anywhere. That's the game Pele must have in mind then when he described it 'The Beautiful Game'.

Barring the Netherland V Portugal game, all other games have been a thrill to watch.

This World Cup will be remembered for two things: The ridiculous refereeing and the antics of the cheating Portuguese. Certainly wasn't the beautiful game and anyone who remotely appreciates football will be glad to see the back of the most overrated, dirtiest team in the competition....Well done France...

If the Germany-Italy Semi finals are anything to go by, it's still the beautiful game.

I would call it the
(i) "Fight for the trophy"
You face different nations, and according to your performance you qualify.

(ii) "Seriousness, mistakes lead to failure."
You do mistakes then you might get red card like Rooney, or your team might be as Brazil in Wc 2006.

(iii) "Team work attains sucess"
If you want to dominate, take the ball right through and you only want to shoot a goal, then sorry you'll lose.

(iv) "Decisions"
Decisions (by referee) might be wrong but you can't argue.

(v) "Hard Work"
Hard work pays, even if you win or not.
