Mucous. Gross but true, it's the mucous lining in the stomach that keeps the acid from dissolving the stomach wall. Sometimes it doesn't work correctly, however (the stomach wall doesn't produce enough mucous, or produces too much acid), that's when an ulcer develops.

Because of a mucous coating. If it didn't have this, the acids would eat into the stomach wall, as happens sometimes with ulcers.

simply because the stomach contains three layers wherein the outer most layer is slimy, whcih protects itself from being digested by the gatric juices secreted by the intestinal wall.

in addition to the mucous lining,the pepsin enzyme(which digest proteins) is secreted in an inactive form pepsinogen which becomes activated by HCl in the stomach cavity.

it will, if u dont eat, thats when u develop ulcer! stomach will continue to grind even if u dont eat, as a result, it will eat the outer lining of ur stomach..
