My friend is moving to Maine for is firts 'real' job and I want to give him a small going away gift. Any ideas? I am thinking something New Jersey related so he doesn't forget his friends here...or something related to his new career as a reporter/broadcast. Appreciate all ideas though!

How about a necklace. Something with a dedication.

Are you still looking for a gift? My favorite "moving away" gift is a blank address book to be filled out by everyone at the going away party, if you are throwing a party. This way, he could keep in touch with everyone (without the "lost my cell phone" or "got a new cell phone" excuses). You can easily find inexpensive, masculine address books. If there is no going away party, just try to collect them on your own from the friends you know of and write it in.

Another idea - if he is into an electronic phonebook would be to start a Plaxo account (they're free) and send emails to your mutual friends.

Good Luck! Its hard to say goodbye but you'll have a friend to visit!

I think the best idea is to give him something hand made. Gather up all your friends and think about something. For example, for a friend's birthday, we painted the hard part of the wheel(don't know it's name)and he loved it.
