Laptop is a portable computer, that you can carry around. But there shouldn't be much processing difference in between them if there is no difference in the clock speed. But pentium 2 is not very suitable for laptop using, it can become very hot so you need to use a very good cooler with it.

The Pentium 2 is an older processor (ancient in computer years!) Most applications today recommend a minimum P3 with 256MB RAM.

Just some additional info if you're looking to buy. Today's computers are a lot better than computers of just a year ago. And a computer made 6 months from now will probably be better than a computer made today. But in today's market, you can get a decent desktop from Dell for $299 or a laptop for $499. And they have better processors than the P2.

They would serve you very well..... unless you are going to use the computer for gaming, in which case you'll probably spend a couple of thousand bucks for the memory, faster CPU, video card, etc.

Well first of all, the speeds of both Pentiums would be one of the biggest differences if there is one.

Especially back in the day, a desktop would outperform a laptop. Plus, it had more upgrade options. Laptops back then typically used integrated video as opposed to a standalone video card that many PC's had. Integrated video was much worse back then, as it shared the system's main memory (RAM). RAM is much slower than memory directly located on the video card.

There are lots of possible differences here. You need to be more specific to get a decent answer...

Pentium 2 is the type of CPU chip used in the system. A laptop is light weight, book-sized unit, whoile a desktop is usually much larger and not meant for easy carrying. If they both have the same chip, that means they both operate at roughly the same speed (for calculations, disk access, etc.) and are good for roughly the same jobs.

Depends on what the configurations are. It's probable that the desktop is faster cause it probably has more memory, a faster video card and a bigger harddrive (coincidentally).

idk agree with person one, except laptops usually work best with higher processors because by nature they are a bit slower
