i bought a caravan with my ex wife (before we split up) we paid half each, now we are no longer together my ex will not allow me access to the van as i will not lend her my jeep so that she can use it - reason being i lent her my jeep before and she did not look after it, returned it with no fuel, and the thought of her racing down the m25 with a 26ft caravan gives me nightmares -she has the keys to the lock up and caravan.
where do i stand legally, i dont want to take her to court or involve soliciters however i am not being held to ransome over something that is as much mine as hers.

We get the same petty squabbles here in America.
I have no idea what the laws are in your area...I would certainly check...but two grown-up people should be able to come to an understanding without involving the entire legal profession.
If you split the cost of the caravan, but you retain exclusive use, that isn't right, is it? Ah, but it wouldn't be right to have her burn up the transmission either, as she would be destroying community property.
Have you considered allowing her to buy the second half, as it were, and taking possession of the caravan? Or, alternatively, can you offer her the remaining value, and have sole title?
Just a thought.

All you can do is get a solicitor involved, because the longer you wait, the less the caravan will be worth---you dont really think she is looking after it, do you??? DONT let her get the Jeep; she could sell it with the caravan and run with the proceeds. Get help-- you know you need it or you wouldnt be asking us!! Good luck.

Change the lock on the lock-up!! She should really give you your half of the caravan, perhaps you should move on & say well stuff you, keep the damn thing. Whose name is the lock up in? If it's yours, get rid then she might think differently when she's got nowhere to store the 'van when she's not using it. You must have sorted out the joint assets by now, so, why does she still have joint ownership of the 'van? If you havn't gone to seek legal advise then you're bloody daft!!! I think you don't want to let her go & maybe enjoy the conflict. If that's the case, stop playing games & get it sorted out legally!!!

you are right, she has no right to hold you to ransom over this, but i'm afraid if she wont cooperate then the law is the only way to deal with it.
the jeep is yours, so she has no claim on that (i'm assuming you have your decree absolute through, or else she CAN lay claim to it). if the deeds for the caravan are in your name then she cannot bar you from using it. your best option may be to buy it off of her.
or, if you dont want to do that, contact the citizens advice bureau - if she is deliberately withholding your property, and you have the deeds to prove it is yours, it's a form of theft. she has no right to the item, you should be able to just take it back.
i'm afraid without her cooperation there's verylittle you can do witout the law - remember citizens advice is free so at least you wont have to pay the solicitors fees!

Don't know where you are living, but who's name is the title in and how is it registered makes all the difference. If in her name, it's hers. Your name, it's yours. Both names, belongs to both of you until one of you is willing to sign off on the title. Any questions, get a consultation from a lawyer. Only this should all have been decided before the divorce, not after.

if i was you i would seek legal advice. or you could ask her to buy you out on the caravan what would you prefer having to go to war or the money i know what I'd go for just ask her to give you back the money that you spent on it and if she says no she obviously still wants you in her live otherwise she would give it up

Does she understand why you won't loan her the jeep?
If she does understand, is she willing to do a better job looking after it, if you are willing to give her another chance with it?
If you are willing to give her another chance, but not more than one more chance, be sure to make it clear, that if it is not returned in the condition you want, you will not loan it to her again.

i would forget about the caravan she is obviously being unreasonable and doesn't seem like shes going to budge stop asking her about it she might suddenly change her mind when she thinks its doesn't mean that much to u! not sure about all the legal stuff buts that's what i would do.

do you all have children, and does she have any other method of transportation if your answer is yes to the children and no on the transportaion she will win. Because she need to take the kids places and needs a car.
But it is your choice at the end it is your half of the car i guess.
Just make the right choice.
