Ford generally recomends 30 and maybe heavier for hot weather... but seriously the type of oil and your filter are more important at that point and that is determined by the condition of your truck and what kind of use is normal and/or intended.

It really depends on what kind of climate you live in. If you are in the south, 10W40 or 20W50 will do year 'round. When I was working in Illinois in February those were a tad thick, and 5W30 would have been a better choice. If in doubt, there is a temperature to oil viscosity chart in your owners manual. The best way to choose an oil weight is based on ambient temperature.

I do think of the 3000 miles is little extreme those days. yet on an identical time 7500 miles, whilst probable completely secure, is slightly longer that i might circulate. I often do 5000 mile oil differences on my Bronco, yet I persist with 3000 miles oil replaced with my Mustang because of the fact it runs compelled induction.

Fram oil filters are the most overpriced and cheaply made filters available
Slick 50? want to kill your engine faster? you need no additives
Whats wrong with what you've been using? Stick with that if everythings doing fine.... no need for a high mileage oil or some such stuff..... when what you've been using has served you well and will continue such.
