Enlightened is a stage where very few people reach. There are many gurus, people claim that they have reached enlightened but nobody knows how to reach there.

First thing is to know self. Yourself. Understand whats happening within us. How the thoughts are formed, why do we act differently in different situation etc. this can be first or basic step for enlightenment.

Realize that perhaps there is no real distinction between you and your environment. In scientific terms, we're all just the same: collections of particles. Even the air is a collection of particles. In this sense, it is easier to acknowledge that you are one with your environment. Meditate on this point, and it becomes soothingly peaceful.
Now that you've become one with your environment, you should realize that all collections of particles (objects or beings) yield some thing concerning your happiness. In other words, you should listen to everything around you; this doesn't mean you should shut off all senses and just hear for things. Indeed, you should use all your senses and even internal mental forces such as concentration in order to be more enlightened. You should see the spider kill its prey. You should hear the river hitting rocks. You should smell the perfume of a flowerbed. You should taste the bitterness of green leaves. You should touch the cold, wet air. And above all, you ought to concentrate on the spirit emanated from all things, which, according to the enlightened Siddhartha, emits "Om." That's weird to understand, but it makes sense. When you do yoga, for instance, you are often told to concentrate on an imaginary dot on your forehead; this sort of makes you one with yourself in your meditation. With time and meditation, you can even become one with God; you can become one with all ideas emanating from other objects and beings. They even teach that we are all similar in our intents and ultimately end up in an endless cycle of life. When you become one with everything, then you are truly enlightened.

Seek....and you shall find.

The question is....do you "really" want to become enlightened? I caution you....enlightenment is a double edged sword. In some things.....ignorance truly is bliss.

And, the real byotch about it is.....that once you know something....you can't "unknow" it. I have learned things....that I truly wish I hadn't.

But, overall....I too want to become as "enlightened"....as educated, as I possibly can. The more educated we become....the greater opportunity we have to be a better person.

Becoming of aware of the light that you already are is enlightenment, but why do you have to become what you already are.

So simply, behave as if you already are. Just being yourself is being full of your light and being in your own light is enlightenment.

It may feel like being in love, only constantly. In love with your own self, as you see the light that is you.

You have to do some real deep soul searching, and when done that all else falls into place, or it did for me. I discovered that God was always in my life, not that I asked for him to be there either (I was a child) when saw certain images that later on life come back to wake up the strength that had always been there.
When we look inside of ourselves, at all our hopes, fears and combine them we learn- it also requires doing what is right, for you and others about you.
Soul searching, living
Well, that's my opinion.
Sorry I was going to add more here but my twin showed up so not all I wanted to say, but then I've always got something to say ;)

Often this depends on what you call "enlightened". I suggest tons of research (in other words, read all of the "boring" books in philosophy). Any question man can ask, he can answer.

Stop reading, listening to TV, radio, going on line. Basically, stop all external knowledge except what you observe. Stop getting into discussions about anything more interesting than the weather. Oh, and be nice to everyone.
