It's already started to become legal. Some states are leading the change, and when enough get on board, the Federal government will have to follow suit.

Just possesion alone will be over 40 years out. The rest could take up to 100 or more years.

If the world ends for the most part by nukes it will be legal then...what laws?

Hi!Let me set the parameters of my answers first before completely addressing your concern.

The drug cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, is produced from parts of the cannabis plant, primarily the cured flowers and gathered trichomes of the female plant. The major active chemical compound tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC, has psychoactive and medicinal effects when consumed, usually by smoking or ingestion. Cannabis has been consumed by humans for thousands of years; in the 20th century there was an upswing in the use of cannabis for recreational and religious purposes.

Having said this, In recent decades, a movement to decriminalize cannabis has arisen in several countries. This movement seeks to make simple possession of cannabis punishable by only confiscation or a fine, rather than prison. In the past several years, the movement has started to have some successes. These include Denver, Colorado legalizing possession of up to an ounce of cannabis, a broad coalition of political parties in Amsterdam, Netherlands unveiling a pilot program to allow farmers to legally grow it and Massachusetts voting in favor of a bill to decriminalize the possession of up to an ounce of marijuana.

Further info:

In 2005, Denver became the first major city in the U.S. to make the private use of less than an ounce of marijuana legal for adults 21 and older. The city voted 53.49%-46.51% in favor of the marijuana legalization measure. It should be noted that this initiative does not usurp state law, which currently treats marijuana possession in much the same way as a speeding ticket, with fines of up to $100 and no jail time

Outside these states, I am still at a loss on how long it will take to legalize marijuana.

I hope this helps you.

You do not ever want that to happen, If it is government regulated it will give the government a lot of income and the weed will be subject to heavy taxes. You will have to pay triple the prices you pay today. If we fall into such deep debt, we need some cash, weed is the way to go.

Well, if America should put war on the Netherlands for having an International Court of Justice (the US didn't want to partake in it), and the Netherlands win, it could be soon. But unlikely.

Not while we are alive.
There are too many people who make their living enforcing drug laws, seizing money that may or may not have come from drug sales, just because you have cash it must be illeagal. Lawers trying drug cases in court, judges, defense lawyers, prosecuters making a reputation as tough on crime, jailers, wardens, corporations running prisons making profit by keeping people in jails, contractors building jails, raising money for political campains both for and against. If Pot was leagalized we would have to find other crimes to put people in jail. Personally I would like to see 'Political TV adds, overt and covert propaganda, and More than one hour of Political commentary per week on TV networks" Become a capital offense. punishable by Tatooing " A red " Bull$h1t " Tatoo on the perpetrators forehead.

However,

I do believe that pot should be de-criminalized, however, users would be required to register as a user, no one under the age of 18 could buy or use, sellers who sold to minors would be exiled to the workers paradise of North Korea until they could prove they are 'Not Guilty'. Users would not receive or keep a drivers license until they surendered thier 'User card" and tested negative on two separate randomly timed consecutive drug tests at least 6 months apart. employers could restrict the hiring of users to jobs that do not require mental or physical dexterity as well as positions where the employee may come in contact with the public. Or within reach of Twinkies and other snack foods. Users injured on the job while under the influence of Pot would not be covered by workers comp or disability insurance. They would of course be eligible for free pot to ease the pain and DVD's of Mr Rogers Neighborhood to keep them occupied while they recover.
Other than that: No not in our lifetime.

I don't think any time soon. It should be. There are fatalities when it comes to booze yet it is legal. We could make soooooo much money off legalizing pot.
