Teachers are a facilitator of learning for children (or adults). They are role models. They care about all students, no matter if anyone else in the world cares. Their job is to inspire students to do the best they can and be the best they can.

As a teacher, I help kids learn and help them to get excited about learning. Unfortunately today though, teachers have to be entertainers or they lose the class because we live in a t.v. and video game age: if the teacher is not "on" constantly , kids tune out. Often as a teacher, I also have to be a surrogate parent to many kids; often I am one of the few adults who actually pays attention to them and listens to them. I have even had students from Asia who are here without their parents.

To teach children to love learning. If you instill a love of learning in your students you prepare them for a life filled with new things. As a library media specialist, I try to teach my kids to love to read, not how to read. There is nothing I love more than helping a student find a non fiction book about something they are interested in!!

To teach kids new things and make them think in a broader way. I think too much now a days, instead of teaching, they end up spending far too much time with babysitting and parenting.
