People who say that was totally fair must have been to drunk while trying to forget that England lost because of their own fault. They just can't take responsibility for their actions so now they turn their rage on the other side (its easier then just "being a man" and taking your own responsibility).
Most of the game was actually pretty fair but no doubt that both PK situations were pretty dubious. Also, the ref did save France allot on the yellows, specially in some fouls that he did whistle but didn't show the yellow card as he should according to the rules.
Overall Portugal was the most offensive team and if it weren't for the slightly one sided ref I sincerely don't know if the end result would be the same.
Just my 2 cents.

Yes - entirely fair, the ref had a marvellous match (probably the best run game of the tournament so far from an officiating point of view) - and the first two dodgy decisions he gave were both against the French. Portugal were EXTREMELY lucky not to run up a significant card count, as Ronaldo and Postiga both took exagerrated and pathetic dives in the penalty area.... The bottom line is, how the hell did Portugal get so far without a striker???? England might have comnplained of being short of strikers, but Portugal quite simply never looked like scoring (unless Barthez had hurled the ball into the back of his own net). Pauleta had a miserable tournament and when Portugal ended up playing Ronaldo as a centre forward for large portion of the match (a role that requires physical strength and presence... er.... Ronaldo????) you just knew their World CXup was on borrowed time.

That's odd because a french bloke I know said it was the other way around - go figure!
In the BBC coverage after the match they made a little montage, showing all of the dives in slow motion - and Portugal definately seemed to do most of them. My favourate was when 2 of the portugese went down, at the same time, stood up and gestured to the ref at the same time, then looked at each other, realised what they had just done and how stupid they must have looked!
Portugal have a reputation for diving now, so I doubt any ref would take their protests seriously!

I am not sure what the question is! However, I think that the referee had a extremely good game. The Portuguese team were attempting to utilise some less than desirable tactics. For, example there were several instances of simulation which were dubious. Yet despite their efforts the referee saw through all their attempts. Without a doubt Henry's penalty was dubious although there was contact made the fall seemed exaggerated.
Ultimately, whether the referee made the correct decisions or not the Portuguese showed little invention or creativity in attack and never looked like creating enough chances to win the game.
P.S. Ricardo the best penalty saver in the world?

The ref did take sides, But the Penalty kick was very fair. Because Henry was turning towards a wide open goal where he was then tripped. France won fairly, sad to say. But Portugal definately did not win fairly with that BS call on Rooney against England. That was not a red card. England played one man down the whole time, they would have won. That ref cost them the game, and that was not the first time.

Did we watch the same match????
Portugal should have not been there in the first place against England the ref was on their side. Portugal did lots of diving and fouled all the time.
France will win the world cup. Allez les Bleus.

You must of watched a different game or no nothing about football, France went down easy under contact, it may have been minimal but there was contact,Portugal planned dives no contact, cheats should be ashamed of what they have brought to football as a nation!
Portugal may have dived against england but rooney was stupid and they played better footy than the english side!

Portugal has nothing to complain about. In the England match, the referee was taking sides with Portugal. Everything evens out...

I just have to say one thing... I am not from Portugal, but I supported them yesterday...I was sad they lost! I was sad for their fans, but today when I started reading all your questions and comments I am really disappointed in you!!!! ( I don't mean just you, I mean all the fans) Come on!Stop complaining! everything was fair, France won, that means during that game they were better, more lucky etc... Has nothing to do with the referee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get over it! I am not even upset ebcause of Portugal anymore, I just think that you are funny and silly! If you are complaining about this, you should also complain about winning over England, right? It was the same thing...

Too bad, portugal has a bad reputation when it comes to diving, if I'm the ref, I wouldn't believe they were the real victim. That is what they get for cheating in the earlier game, suits them well!
