Welsh folk traditionally count as English - this is not my belief it's just the way a lot of people think - so they are included in the English man. What about Welsh women?

If you're concerned just start saying

An English man, a Scots man, an Irish man and a Welsh woman all went to the zoo... etc

Welsh just kind of get lumped in with english outside of the UK. Too similar. In the US most people use English and British interchangeably.
