Ryan w is correct, you have to muliply everything in the brackets by 6 this leaves 4x -6x + 48. Then do 4x -6x = -2x.
This leaves -2x + 48. You could then go further I guess and divide everything by 2, to leave -x + 24 but I would leave it as is personally.

Always multiply what's in the () 6 times x = 6x + 48. Leaving you with 4x-6x+48. The solve. The answer is -2x+48

Start by multiplying the 6 to each term inside the parentheses:
4x - (6x + 48)
Then open the parentheses and change all the signs because of the minus on the outside:
4x - 6x - 48
Now combine like terms.
( -2x - 24 )
Now since both factors can be divided by -2, you put it on the outside of the parentheses and reduce everything inside by a factor of -2. Don't forget to change your sign on the inside!
-2 (x+24)
Good luck!
