As of right now they are 57-28.

In order for them to win 100 they would have to go 43-34 the rest of the way.

Can they do it?

If they keep playing like they are right now and stay relatively healthy I think they really have a chance to make 100! Who EVER would have thought... I was going to be extatic with .500!

I would say it's highly unlikely.

Right now it's July 6th and they are sitting at 57 wins and 28 losses (good for a league leading .671 winning percentage) but last season they finished with a 71 and 91 record (.438 winning percentage), in 2004 they had a .444 winning percentage and in 2003 it was a dismal .265

The last time they finished with 100 wins was 1984, (104-58 , .642) and they won the world series that year.

I think it's amazing that they are only 3 years removed from one of the worst seasons in MLB history (the worst is Philadelphia in 1916 with a 36-117 record in the AL and for the NL it's Cleveland in 1899, who finished 20-134) and now there leading the league. They are currently 400 points higher then thier winning percentage of just 3 years ago. 400 POINTS. Yes they made some gains in those 2 years between (they moved up about 200 points) but still teams don't usually make these kind of jumps without adding top quality talent.

I watched Verlander come up in the minor leagues and most people suspected that he'd be a big help and his 10 and 4 record has to be a surprize. The Kenny Rogers experiment has turned out better then I think anyone dreamed that it would. Shelton has come big at times, Ordonez finally looks comfortable but having said all that I just don't think the Tigers can sustain this pace.

I would think the Tigers will come back down to earth soon.

It'd be great to see them make the playoffs (and not Boston), whether they can grab a wild card spot or not , I don't know (All depends on what happens in the AL East). But I suspect that the Tigers will go around 30-47 for the rest of the season and finish with 87-75 record...give or take a few games.

I just hope they do better then Boston.

Baseball is a sport and not a science. However, the laws of probability apply with four teams that could have a 100 game winning season.

Percentage of Wins - The 'X' factor =
Total Seasonal Wins.

% (Current Wins to Games played)

American League East...Boston Red Sox

American League Central...Detroit Tigers - Chicago White Sox

National League East...N.Y, Mets

The Boston Red Sox and the N.Y. Mets are a stretch, but, a possibility.

The 'X' Factor

Trades + Injuries...

Will Detroit, Boston, Chicago White Sox and the Mets stay in a holding position and not be involved in any trades. And, will the pitching and fielding hold up in during second season baseball after the trade deadline date of 31 July 2006.

Good question...LETS GO, METS

Statistically, yea they should and it would be a great story too considering how bad they were only a couple years ago. However, they're just too young and riding on a high because of how good they've been so far. Look at the Nationals last year. They weren't quite as young, but they were playing great in they're first DC season until reality settled in and they finished 500. Detroit's going to be better than 500 but not 100 wins. Sorry but the White Sox got that one.

Is it possiable? Yes. Do I think they WILL well that is a harder question. Leyland is proably the best Manager in Baseball, my opinion and have a reasonable basis although being a Pirates fan it is also some bias. If anyone could get them to 100 wins I think he could. The problem is even he has admitted they are playing beyond their talent. I know that was recently but come on he knew from the start and that isn't going to change. You have to understand he knows his talent and when he made the comment he knew it was based on the season. I don't think I would put money on them getting to 100 wins. Espically without double checking their schedule.

I can see the Detroit Tigers winning at least 81 games and having an average over .500 but 100 games is a lot of Games for the Tigers to win this season.

I'm amazed they are doing so well! I am a Red Sox fan and can't believe the Tigers are ahead of the White Sox. They are in a division with Chicago and Minnesota so I really do't think they will win 100, but that's not the prize. Winning the World Series is.

They definitely could. It's amazing, isn't it? Never could have imagined this before the season started, but definitely a possibility now. If the pitching holds up and we don't run into injury problems with the vets, 100 is a real possibility. And then it will be into the playoffs we come, with anything possible, even a Tigers World Series!

That would be nice, but no, I don't think so.

The relief corps doesn't have a full year in them. Jones has been up to his old tricks, making sure the game is interesting rather than just setting them down, and apparently some of our other guys are learning from him.

The pitching has gotten us this far, as well as the grinding it out with a different hero every night. But I don't expect the pitching to stay stellar through the end of September.

Suprisingly YES!!! I thought it would take Dombrowski a couple more years to make them compete for a tiltle. He scored an ace by hiring Leland as manager. He (Leland) was a great manager in the Tigers farm system for many years but could not move up with Sparky Anderson at the helm.

The Tigers will fall in the second half much like the Nationals did last year. The rookies will get tired and their pitching will suffer. Give them a few more years.
