How is it that no one can tell that Superman is really Clark Kent? It's driving me INSANE! I can't get over how totally corny and stupid it is. Are there any comic fans/nerds out there that have an explanation that can put my mind at ease? ...

Ok, all of you comic geeks... SHUT UP!!! This guy has a point...

I don't care if that's the "story"
I don't care what your geekdified reasoning is...

If you worked with someone who looked just like Superman but had glasses *whoa*... YOU WOULD KNOW IT WAS HIM!!!!

So you say no one suspects because Clark Kent is geeky and a bumbling fool? That's basically saying that everyone who wears glasses is a big clumsy moron who could never be a super hero. That just pisses me off on it's own.

He still has rippling pectorals in his journalist five and dime suit, they're never in the same place at the same time, Superman disappears for five years- so does Clark... You would think investigative, Pulitzer prize winning, college graduating journalists could put this crap together... DUH!

This just proves my opinion that Superman is the DUMBEST, CORNIEST, most RETARDED superhero of all time....

Anyone who tries to justify this needs to get LAID!!!!!

It's probably something to do with the psychologiciaol concept of the 'susceptibility of expectation.'

Firstly, unless a comic nerd can put me right, I don't think it's widely known that Superman HAS an alter ego, so nobody's going to look at Clark and think "Oh my God it's Superman in a big hat and glasses!" As they think Superman is Superman 24/7, the very most they'd be likely to think is "Wow, has Clark been working out or something?"

Plus of course, there's all the body language to consider. Superman - strong, flying, confident guy who can do amazing thing. Clark - gentle, polite, diffident, clumsy guy, not huge on the confidence. So this will add to the layering of perception that says to the mind of anyone looking "Poor Clark" rather than "Oh my God - Superman!"

Bottom line is that people are laziliy perceptive - they see what they expect to see, and what they are shown. To look behind all that and make the intuitive jump that someone as powerful as Superman also has a day job in disguise is rare enough to make the apparently flimsy disguise work pretty well.

Suspension of disbelief, my dearest. It's a comic that was written in the thirties. Also, there is a psychological factor. Who would believe that meek, nerdy, Clark Kent with big glasses and a shy smile is that erstwhile do-gooder, the larger-than life, invincible Man of Steel? It's too far a leap for those who know him to make.

It isn't stupid at all.
Everybody has a nerdy side=shy and insecure just like Clark Kent, fumbling for his glasses, mumbling his words doubting himself...
We all also have a heroic side, a brave side we want to express and the idea of Superman is showing us both sides of his personality. We often wear a mask hiding our true selfs just like Superman behind his glasses and cape. The films show us we all have weaknesses and we all have strengths.

I wish someone would just kill him and get him out of the way, Superman annoys me...its completely unbelievable, and he ruins justice league because his face is in almost every cartoon and he sucks!!! He is old and tired, why do we have to keep getting crammed with remakes??? Sorry, i know this isn't an answer but i won't buy ANY explanation. come on Lois don't know? give it up!
Sorry Falco i am no comic nerd but i AM extremely perceptive and observant so that don't fly for me, but your costume is cute, in fact its better than superman!

He releases a faramone that decreases the chances of you realising they looks exactly the same. Much like alcohol decreases your awarness of how ugly she really is. Well I tried, this comic is so old when they came up with it they never knew it would last this long into a time of reasoning and truth so... They came up with the first thing they thought of and say "it will have to do."

You're right...it is ridiculous, but it is a comic, so suspention of disbelief has to come into play.
Also, take into consideration how effective "hiding in plain sight" can be.

I'm just as insane as you. But are u suppose to know who your real super hero in real life is? Your super hero wouldn't be a super hero if you know him, would it not? If we do have a super hero friend, I would believe that we may be too bored to him, won't we? I'm sure he'll tell us to get a you know what...
