Rather then tell you the number of balloons required(as ballons are all different sizes I can tell you the approximate amount of He you would need.

The first thing to realize is that in order to float you need to have less mass in a specific volume then the substance in which you are trying to float. This is why hugh steal ships can float, their weight is equal to the amount of water the displace, and since their built to float they have just slightly more displacement then their total weight.

So first thing we need to do is figure out the density of air at standard temperature and pressure. Ait happens to have a density of 1.29 g/L Now we need to figure out the density of He at STP which happens to be 0.179g/L. Now we need to find the difference in density 1.29 - 0.179 = 1.111g/L. 1.111 is the amount of lift you can expect from each cubic liter of He. Now Lets say the weight is 150lbs(includes ballons, rigging, you, and anything else.) 150lbs is about equal to 68.1kg or 68,100grams. 68,100g / 1.111g/L = 61296L of gas that you will need inorder to lift your self up. 61296L is equal to 61.296 cubic meters. In other words you need a cube of helium that is 4meters per side.

So the answer to the question is that you need about 62 cubic meters of He to lift 150lbs(you, ballon, and gear) off of the ground. Hope this answers your question.

Edited: You could use hydrogen which has an even lower density at STP but hydrogen likes to catch on fire if your not careful. If you want to recalculate the math the density of hydrogen is 0.089g/L or about half that of He.

u could hire a hot air balloon which would take 1, but u saw a programme where there was a kid the had a massive bunch probably 300 there and she was he tiny, so probably 1000, just buy the helium canaster, a big net, like they have at fairs, and a massive pack on ballons, make sure u have a friend close with an air rifle to get u back down again, and good luck its gonna be well gd fun

You should watch mythbusters on the discovery channel, they tested this. It is very difficult and you would need about 50 weather balloons filled with helium, you cannot use regular balloons because they pop after a period of inflation due to cheap plastic material. Good luck, you need some money but you got the ambition.

consider this. if a penny can keep an average size helium balloon down..... a crapload.

to add to this, i once thought about doing the same thing to a desk in high school. I don't remember the numbers, but it was in the thousands if i'm not mistaken (been a few years).

you cant do this even though you got all the balloons in the world unless you use a light gas such as H2 or He filled balloons. the number of balloons required is depend on the weight of them. you should use Archimedes's law for this.

The question dictates that I give you this answer. Try filling your balloon head with helium. When enough is there you'll take off...in space...where you belong.

i don't know how many balloons you would need specifically, but you would need a LOT of balloons. i would guess 700 balloons. i'm no scientist but i'm guessing.

you may need around 6000 of balloons.....just take hot-air balloon and you can fly in style, yea?...
