As an African American woman, sadly I have encountered racism at one point or another in my life; I have also read of how things were here as well; Let me break it down to you; Each of us in this world come from one point; however, we dispersed and became different type of people. this is where the trouble came in; there are those who are proud of who they are and where they come from; and there are those who take that proudness and become superior with it; hence racism. America is one of the diverse countries on earth due to the opportunities offered and what have you, yet for a time, there were those who had the edge on that and other groups of people got slighted for that sad to say, causing some groups of people to feel inferior and bringing about a negative effect towards them; and you still have this going on to this day; I have an undergraduate degree, yet, I work for about a dollar more than minimum wage in a job I know I am overqualified for; which is why I believe in fairness and equality for all.

Why is it in more liberal countries, with large immigrant populations, are even more segregated than the US. Take a look at Germany, France, and the UK. It is mostly lily-white neighborhoods or apartment blocks with an overwhelming percentage of those residents being of the same color. So then you have a few ghettoes where there are few or no white Europeans. Contrast this with the US. In decades past there were many devout, rabid, and vocal segregationists in the South. The South was mocked and ridiculed to no end, which is probably completely justified. The South still has a few segregationists, racists, and just idiots. Old age and death has taken care of most of the bigots. Education and exposure has taken care of most of the idiots but they are still out here. The South is quite diverse and you do have a few neighborhoods that are all one race, nationality, or whatever but the South is, in many cases, more fully integrated than many cities in the Northeast and Midwest. Here it is not uncommon for a white family to live near a Pakistani couple, a black couple living next door to the Thai family, the white family living next door to the Hispanic family, etc...There are diverse areas where there are all kinds of races and such living side by side. Are you just not seeing this or what? Do you walk around your community? Did you just happen to turn the television on, one day, and happen to hear a racist speak? Have you not seen anything regarding the demographics of the US? Have you never been to a Thai restaurant? Indian restaurant? Cambodian? Look at your grocery stores. Aren't you seeing a lot more latin foods? Asian noodles? Matzo balls? etc. Oh wait, sorry. Maybe you don't like any of those foods and you eat what you always have like cheeseburgers, milkshakes, fried chicken; you know, American food like that found in lily white America. We are a free country which means you can be an unaware idiot if you choose. You can choose to close your eyes and not explore other cultures.

To tell you the truth most Americans are and have been for integration,. But for the past 30 yrs most immigrants (Mostly Hispanic) do want to become American they say they don't want to lose their culture but it is more like cultural arrogance, that they feel their culture is better, and they refuse to integrate or asimilate themselves into America. have you been to East LA lately it is almost indestinguishable from Tijuana all the signs are in spanish. They refuse to enter the melting pot and thus segregate themselves that is what I disagree with. Also there are always racist people every where of all races. I know I have had several Asian girlfriends and now my wife is also Asian and have seen it directed towards us by people when we go out and even from my mother in law. I know she would rather I was Cambodian like her.

i agree that if you don't like how things are here, then you don't have to live here and move somewhere else. I think it's by racial integration that will bond many peoples from around the world.
