your best bet is to talk to the doctor who will be doing this explain your fears he/she will be used to patients being afraid
i am sure they will answer any questions you may have
you shouldnt be sick i believe they will give you something to prevent this and possibly a sedative
though a sedative wont put you to sleep it should make you unaware of what is happening
it did with me on the two occassions i was given a sedative
good luck hope the results are good

I had a close friend who had this recently.
Of course it is not pleasant, since the camera has to go down to your throat.
But there is no reason to be scared.
You will not be asleep. The doctor will just give you something to drink that will function as a local sedative so you will feel less in your throat for the short time that the examination will last.
The best thing is to stay very calm and not be afraid. If you are very tensed, you might start choking and although this is a perfectly normal reaction and not dangerous, it will actually only make the experience worse.
Lastly, remember that it will be over very soon (not more than a minute normally) and that it will be over even sooner if you stay calm and relaxed.
ps- the medical term for this is endoscopy

I have acid reflux and occasionally have to go in and have my esophogus stretched out which involves going into my throat with a camera.I have had this done 4 times over the past 3 years. All four times,I was put to sleep and did not even know anything was ever done when I recovered from the anesthesia. If this is the same procedure or anything like it,there is not a single thing to be worried about. The hospital that I use which is in a very small town does over 125 procedures like this every month and has never had any problems according to my doctor.
Good luck and I will pray for you

It really depends on what area of your body they want to look at,if it is your throat specifically there are two options the first is a visual look with local anesthesia spray this can be done using either the nose or mouth as portal of entry. however if the Dr. is concerned with gagging and the ability to see adequately then he will use a dream like state. induced by an injection. Most people who have had the latter report the procedure as a minor incident.
most people do not get sick with these procedures.

In our community wellbeing facility you get a decision, complete knock out so that you do not have any unsleeping expertise of what's taking position or sedation yet being conscious and helpful. I chosen the former - the back of my throat become sprayed with a bitter tasting substance, then i become given an injection (hypnoval?). the subsequent element I keep in mind become being provided a cup of tea and a biscuit. interior the interim, the technique were achieved, I had fetched my coat and handbag from a locker and walked to the chair unaided. I had no theory that any of this had befell! the area with being sedated a lot is that the wellbeing facility insisted that I had someone to take me domicile by using vehicle. i have had 3 of those techniques, each and each and every of the end results of having ulcers - now cured, i'd upload. With one exam, I did actual sneak out and walk domicile (about 10 minutes) and felt nice.

If it's like the stomach camera, they will spray-freeze your throat, that just feels like a spray, kind of cool, then they will insert the camera and you won't sense a thing. Usually before any kind of invasion treatment, the doctor will take a couple of minutes before she/he starts to explain the procedure.
Please do not worry, you are in good hands.
All the best.

It's not so bad! They'll numb your throat (which is weird at first but gets much better after a moment or two) so you won't gag. The drugs they give you - well, they say they'll make you "woozy" but I also thought that was an understatement - I don't remember much at all! Good luck, and really, it's not as scary as it sounds. The drugs are more fun than the procedure is scary :)

They don't like to put people to sleep for this kind of procedure, but will do if they really need to. It won't make you sick if you try to relax (easier said than done,I know). Just swallow it like it's a piece of spaghetti. It's not the nicest thing to have done but it doesn't last long. Good luck with everything.x

Dont be afraid, when I had it done, they gave me valium and a troat antiseptic spray. Ther was a 'spare' tube on the endoscope and the doctor asked me if I wanted to have a look. It was fascinating and very relaxing - good luck
