because he's old. its time for monta ellis to shine. and those 3 players' contracts will expire next year which would give them flexibility to pursue top-caliber free agents...

Derek Fisher makes too much money when it comes right down to it. Derek Fisher is an aging player, Chris Mullen basically got rid of a large contract. He is probably clearing cap space for further down the season or for next year.

Devin Brown can be a great addition to that team, he has played well in the playoffs but was just a bad fit in Utah. If the Warriors do decide to release him only $500,000 of his contract is guaranteed.

As great of a person that Derek Fisher is i can see why Mullen traded him away. I also think Utah would be a better fit for Fisher. He is a Jerry Sloan like player, that team needs leadership and thats one thing that he can bring. He can also be a great mentor to Williams. All in all i think it was a good move by bot the warriors and the Jazz...at this point tho i call the move a draw for both teams, we'll see which team got the better end of the deal later.

Sometimes a team needs to just take a chance to get better. Derek Fisher was not really defensive, he can score though. Warriors might get better by getting some younger fresh legs to back up Baron Davis and maybe clear some salary cap space in the process. Tim Thomas and Boris Diaw were no-namers too and look what they did for Suns.

Warriors have Baron Davis now. It's all about the money, they don't want to spend so much money on one position (Point Guard). Getting rid of Fisher means that they can use that money to get a better player for another position, probably a better center or forward.

Actually they haven't done it yet. They can't do anything until July 12. So nothing's really set in stone until then.
