The Senate was upset because they thought he was going to try and be an emperor. He'd been named dictator for life and tehy were all scared.
A group of senators led by Brutus and Cassius laid in wait on the Ides of March as he approached the Senate, and stabbed him to death. His friend Mark Anthony gave a funerall speech and then went after his assassins. Unfortunately he also got power hungry and ended up committing suicide after hearing that Caesar's nephew, Octavian, had defeated him.
