It seemed like a good idea at the time....

But yeah, as it turns out it didn't save any lives, it just pissed people off... I think it was the start of 'road rage'.

In Pennsylvania it is still 55 Mph except on a few roads like I-80 or I-76. And yes it is stupid.

Actually, when the speed limit was reduced, fatal road accidents fell by about 40 percent. I think that this alone was worth it.

No you moron. When the speed limit was lower it was because of saftey emissions that cars could perform at. ABS systems are not what they are now along with the handling and performane of today's cars. Do you even have a car?

In a way yes and no. No, because there were probably less automoblile accidents and less speeding tickets.
Yes, because getting from place to place would take a longer time.

You get better gas mileage at 55mph
