I've never known anyone with that name, and I lived in Greece for three years. Will you pronounce it the Greek way, Evrika, with the accent on the first syllable? Or the English way, Youreeka, with the accent on the second syllable?

It's an appropriate name for a child. It means, "I've found it!" as in something exciting and good that you've been looking for for a while or with a lot of effort.

Eureka ('Eureka!', or 'Heureka'; Greek εὕρηκα/ηὕρηκα; IPA /ˈevrika/ (modern Greek) or /ˈeᵘreːka/ (ancient Greek)) is a famous exclamation attributed to Archimedes. He reportedly uttered the word when he suddenly understood that the volume of an irregular object could be calculated by finding the volume of water displaced when the object was submerged in water, subsequently leaping out of his bathtub and running through the streets of Syracuse naked. "Heureka" is the 1st person singular perfect indicative active of the Greek verb heuriskein, (Greek εὑρίσκειν) meaning "to find"; it means "I have found it!", or more accurately, "I am in a state of having found it". As a result, "Eureka!" has become an interjection which is used to celebrate a discovery (whether a major scientific truth or something as minor as the finding of a lost item). A Eureka step is the step in a proof that cracks the problem and paves the way to the solution.
The expression is quoted as the state motto of California, referring to the momentous discovery of gold near Sutter's Mill in 1848.
its a good name......

It sounds nice as an interjection, but as a name I´m not really sure, of course that depends, who are you giving this name to? a pet? a person? male? female?
The meaning of the word is I´ve found it! and it is attributed to Archimedes.
Sometimes we choose names that are not common because we want to be original. But you have to think also in the future of your kid. Will people make fun of him/her because of his/name? Most likely YES!, As kids we tend to be very cruel to other kids.
So think about it.. what´s so wrong about traditional names? In Europe they are now using old traditional names that were considered OLD FASHIONED.. now, after having so many Jenniffers and Vanessas.. people think of traditional names as more chic. :)

sorry, I really don't like it. Besides being a vacuum cleaner, it's an old expression for when someone finds gold or something. I like unusual names but this is a bit much.

Kind of like this woman that named her two sons, Dawon, and Daoderwon. There is line for names, you have crossed it. Get past that whole...be the first, be unique, the kid would hate it and people would think it was another typical stupid black name.
