I have a 2000 Honda CRV, black, and want to put racing stripes on it (either metallic red or silver). Vinyl, that would be removable. Question is, would it look terrible on a CRV or alright? I've seen trucks with stripes, so I was guessing it would look similar on an SUV.

Never seen racing stripes on a CRV so must say it will be unique.

Just fair warning, even though they are vinyl and removable. The fact that you are covering up the paint from the sun will result in sun fade.

Meaning the longer the stripes are on the car the more of a difference there will be between the paint under the stripe and beside it. When it comes to sell the vehicle and you remove the stripe, you will see a black stripe.

This will not be able to just be buffed out. If for only a year wet sanding normally removes it but for more than that it becomes permanent in the finish. Seen it a hundred times with racing stripes, pin stripes, painted stripes.

Well, if you like it then go for it.... not really my cup of tea though. I always felt that racing stripes were for race cars or muscle cars. If I might suggest something...... don't do the metallic stripes. Just go with a red stripe because the metallic red might look a little cheesy (kinda like those chrome stripes on the bottom of some cars).... good luck.

Definitely silver--try more like a shiny chrome. I had a 99' honda civic (also black) and the silver stripes gave it an elegant and sporty touch. Also it looked hot when the light shined off of it during the day. Even at night it creates a glimmering affect

Would it look terrible on a CRV? That is completely up to you.
Youre wanting it to look more appealing to you, correct? If its something you think you will like, then go for it! Maybe try this? get some black construction paper and cut them to the size of stripes you want and scotch tape them in place, where you want the stripes to get a general idea of what you'd have in the end.
If you think it would look cool, then go ahead and get the vinyls....and construction paper & tape are cheap, and if it turns out you dont like them, youre not out alot of money.
Hope I helped a little.....elmo_schmelmo1

Stripes look okay on sports cars but silly on anything else, like george bush on a racing bicycle

putting stripes on your CR-V is like Rosie O'Donnell wearing a thong bikini. Not good.
