Also known as A2 (A-squared), Ace Deuce (and just "Deuce" amongst the younger crowd), Tree Town, and The People's Republic of Ann Arbor. The latter moniker is a right-wing jibe at the town for being an oasis of liberalism surrounded by Midwest conservatism, as well as the frequent inclination of its City Council to pass resolutions on foreign policy issues.

Ann Arbor frequently appears at the top of many "Best Cities" lists: for raising a family, retiring, health care, "cool" place for younger adults, music education, books sold per capita, etc. It's conveniently located far enough away from Detroit that one never needs to go there, or close enough to take advantage of the few cultural events and places that city has to offer. With the Detroit Metropolitan Airport located midway between Ann Arbor and Detroit, national and international travel is often a direct flight away.

Michigan is part of the Eastern time zone. The southeast portion of the state, in which Ann Arbor is located, is protected from such weather patterns as the "lake effect," so it gets much less snow than the rest of the state and can even get less than areas around New York City and Philadelphia. The area doesn't get hurricanes, wildfires, or earthquakes. The most negative features of the weather are the occasional tornado warnings that interrupt one's television shows and very humid summers. The hottest week of the year is always during the annual Ann Arbor Art Fairs, held around the 3rd week of July, which draw half a million people from across the country.

Perhaps it goes without saying that Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan, which is part of the Big Ten. It is also home to Domino's Pizza and Border's Book Stores, which both had their first stores in Ann Arbor.

It's Ann Arbor

great town; home to U of Michigan and a lot of tech business.

Great food and shopping and recreation. I have been all over the world and it is still one of the best place to visit; great "little" college town that is a lot bigger than it feels.
