We've been together for more than a year. He thinks since he pays for most of the meals, when we eat at home, it is my duty to do the dishes. He lives at home so no matter it's us cooking together or his family cooks I should do the dishes. I don't mind doing it just hate his attitude/thinking. He even refuses to just stay around in the kitchen while I do the cleaning. Is he right thinking this way?

Hell no, who made the food? If you did then he cleans the dishes. If he did then you do the dishes. If you both did then both of you do the dishes. If you bought some Chinese take-out or something then tell him you want to take turns on washing the dishes. You're not his slave and don't let him treat you like one.

No it's a double standard...take him out to eat, pay the bill and let him know that just because you don't have a penis that means it's your duty to wash dishes. You should either do it together, or take turns.

It's a warning sign. Words like "duty" in a relationship is not a good sign. Make sure there is compromise and understanding in the relationship before going any further.

Most men think that its where we ota be, in the kitchen. That we need to do the celaning and everything that goes along with it.He thinks his right and seems like one of those guys no matter how nice you ask him, he just wont be caught dead washing dishes.Maybe someday he will suprise you, just give him time, other wise noone els is gonna offer so i guess you need to do it, i know its not always the most exciting thing to do, but make peace with it.

Chores are chores, any way you put it.

Tell him that sex with him is also a chore, and that you feel -- from now on -- that's a chore you can do on your own as well...

See how quickly that towel snaps out of nowhere to help his sweet lovable woman dry those dishes.

Aren't the exhausting, continuing, pointless power struggles of partnered life just so much FUN?

Whew!
:)

no. if he expects you to do the dishes then he should do the cooking. and if he has a problem with picking up the tab maybe you should alternate or split it. this is the 21st century, let him know.

Everyone in the relationship needs to pull their weight. If he is going to be condesending then tell him it bothers you. Don't waste your time asking strangers, communicate with him.
