My theory is that if time travel was possible then we would have been visited by those future scientists by now.
According to my engineer ex boyfriend, this theory is incorrect but i'm afraid his explanation why was so boring i stopped listening after about 1 minute so i can't tell you what it was... But in summary, he thought it was possible!

Anybody's guess, but I don't think so. Time is the framework of processes, and many processes (such as entropy) are irreversible. For example, it takes a second or two (according to Tom Stoppard) to stir marmalade into your porridge, but you could stir the porridge for eternity and never stir the marmalade OUT of it. Building a machine that would take us into the past would be tatamount to building a machine that could un-bake a cake, stir the tea backwards in some manner so as to stir the sugar and cream out of it, make an old body young, make a non-virgin innocent. This, of course, is a nonsensical concept (measured against common sense, at least!) Now, a cryonic device that can freeze you into suspended animation, thawing you out ten thousand years hence, would, in effect, be a machine that could project you into the future, and, according to the theory of relativity, a space ship going near the speed of light would keep you young by slowing down time, though, to me, there's something odd about that argument. Neither of those devices, in reality, would remove an object or a person magically from one era and plop it down in another, so it's stretching things a bit to call it a time machine. The only place future scientists can build time machines-- unless the universe is a lot different than I think it is-- is on "Star Trek" or somewhere.

A time machine could possibly exist in the future, though not for some time and I believe that this technology would be so dangerous the world's governments would be forced to suppress it and remove any trips to the past from the timeline. It is all confusing information to understand, but scientists have proven that with the right craft, it would be possible to loop around a black hole and obtain the necessary velocity to travel around fifty years into the future. But once you get there, you're stuck, so good luck.

I don't think anyone will ever be able to do this. At least if they can the machine will only be able to move people into the future and not into the past. If people in the future were to be able to build a machine to travel back to the past, then they would already be arriving now from the future and telling us what was going to happen

Time travel is really not that complicated to understand. According to Eintein's Theory of Relativity, the faster an object travels, time for that object begins to slow down. And when the object is traveling at a speed equal to the speed of light, time for that object will stop (no aging while the Universe continues to age). Just because Man cannot create a vehicle to travel at the speed of light does not mean time travel is impossible. He can, however, create a vehicle that will travel NEAR the speed of light.
You can simply travel near the speed of light, and the rate at which time passes for you will still be changed, which is time travel.

I don't think it will ever be possible because it would enable the violation of causality.
Consider the (famous) 'grandfather paradox' - you travel back in time and quite accidentally kill your grandfather, preventing him from fathering your parents, so you were never born, but having never been born, you couldn't have gone back in time and accidentally killed grandad, which means you *were* born, so you *could* go back in time, which means you *did* accidentally kill him, which means you *weren't* born... and so on.
Or a simpler version; you press the button on your time machine and in doing so, travel back in time five seconds, just in time to *stop yourself pressing the button*...
The potential for creating a paradox usually indicates that something is truly impossible.

a time machine { if built} requires a speed of 3*10 power 8 m/s ... thats imposssible... a time machine is only imaginable but not practical...

if people were able to build time machines, don't you think they would have come back in time to tell us how to do that?

I do not think so because time is thing that you can not improve in or get it past, that is why some people say Time is gild but i think it more important rather than gold .we can get gold but never can get 1 past second.
