The hard drive probably crashed because the fan broke, and the temperature got too hot. You need a working fan. They are about $10 online. I suggest getting a copper heat sink. It will drop the temperature about 10 degrees and make it MUCH quieter. I just did it, it worked wonders.

First step is to make sure which fan is making the noise. It's very easy to mistakenly think the sound is coming from one fan and not another. Also, make sure that the sound is actually a fan and not your hard drive! If it's your hard drive, then, as you have experienced in the past, your hard drive is on its way to the grave.
If you find that it really is a fan making the noise and you figure out exactly which one is making the noise, you can usually find a replacement at a computer store like Radio Shack.
Turn off your computer, remove the ailing fan and take it down to your local computer store and find a match for it. Take it home, and place the new one where you too out the old one, connect the fan back to where the old one was connected (you may have to reuse the connector and solder the wires to the new fan) and power up your computer. Immediately check that the new fan is running and running in the proper direction.
Good luck!

could be alot of things I'll give you a few ideas to get you started. -Open the case and confirm it is the CPU fan check the fan make sure no wires are in the way of the fan.
-Buy a new fan because your fan may be dead from www.newegg.com.
-download speedfan just google it. Check your temps that is probly why you crashed is because of a high temp
-check to make sure it is secured with the metal clamp
Most importantly do not ignore it you crashed due to heat which can ruin your computer. Do the hardware check first. Run your computer with the side off and point a fan inside it to help a little while you figure it out.

There is no relatonship between CPU fan's noise and Hard disk crash. the noise u heared last time might be from hard disk. Hard disk generally makes some noise before crashig down.
a new CPU fan will cost 50-100 rupees. so buy a new one.

Fans make noise when they have become too dusty and before they are about to stop working. They are very cheap and can easily be replaced. If not replaced, the system might get overheated and things like crashing of your hard-disk might happen. Check to see which fan is making noise. If its the SMPS (power box) fan, then DONOT open that box yourself. Get a new one as the SMPS's are also cheap compared to a repair.

You may have a broken fan blade, causing the extra noise and also making your fan less effective at blowing air over your CPU. This causes your CPU to overheat and crash. I would take a closer look at the fan to see if all the blades are intact, and then replace the fan with a more powerful one.
Good luck.

Just to be clear, CPU fan is the fan that sits on top of the intel chip together with the heatsink? if this is excessively noisy just change it. if this bad it can literally set the cpu chip on fire.
Or CPU fan is fan that is attached to chassis and suck air out of the computer,
if this is noisy change it, this fan is important to cool the inside of the computer including the harddisk. ensure the harddisk has good surrounding ventilation( do not put 2 harddisk together or close to a floppy for instance )

A bit of useful tip: take your CPU fan out. peal off the sticker or trademark label and you can see a small cap cover at the center of the fan. take that off and you can see a small hole, pour in a little bit of lubricating oil. then put the cap back in. then clean the dust from all over it. then try to plug it in.
and if still has noise, pull back the cap and you can see a small retaining washer that has slit on it (plastic or metal) take that out using precision screw driver. then pull the fan blade out then clean the rolling pins with oil then put it back with the washer.

Do not use your comp if U want to save it! Go to Radio Shack or some computer place that sells those bearing-less fans and put one in. It's way easy! If you overheat your processor excessively you will be sorry.
