Because you're comparing apples and oranges. You act "in a movie" and "in a TV show", but are seen "on the movie screen" or "on the TV screen".

I think because "a movie" refers to the film or the production that you are watching, whereas "TV" refers to the physical object you watch. So you can be "in the news" or "in a TV show".

hmmmmmmmm, I guess it's because if you were in TV you would be saying that you are in the actual TV set and if you were on a movie then you would be sitting or standing on the film, tape cassette, disk or whatever.
Jim Trebek ^^^^ has a handle on it.LOL

If the plural of mouse is mice, why isn’t the plural of house hice? If the plural of goose is geese, why isn’t the plural of moose meese? Why does the word, “one” have a “w” sound with no “w” letter in the spelling? Then the word, “two” has a “w” in the spelling you don’t even need!

because TV shows are watched daily/weekly and viewers see them regularly so refer to it as "on", but people only go to see a movie once and then say they saw them "in" a movie.........................at least that's how my mind sees it
