No, sorry, to be honest.. because imo it's the perfect name for a boy. I have too many visions of a hot Italian Slytherin from Harry Potter whenever I hear that name (even though now we know he's black). Because just about everyone knows the Harry Potter books, they will associate the name Blaise with a guy.

It's originally a man's name (for example, the 4th-c. bishop St. Blaise, or the philosopher-mathematician Blaise Pascal), but it's acceptable as a girl's name, I suppose.

When you pick names, remember to test them together with your last name, so that they're easy to pronounce and understand.

In this case, you should realize that some people will misunderstand the name and think you have called your little girl "Blaze". It might be funny for a moment, but it sounds rather coarse for a little girl, as if she were a cage wrestler.

Because of this risk, I'd recommend using Blaise as a middle name only.

One nice approach is to choose names so that your girl will have one one-syllable name, one two-syllable name, and one three-syllable name. For example: Harriet Blaise Evans. It often produces nice, dignified combinations.

Congratulations!

That's pretty but you also don't want her to get made fun of ..... what about Hazel? I know that
s a little common but it's simple and pretty or Lily?
Maybe you could look at people's suggestions but only you know what would fit...and in the end it's your decision! If you want to name her Blaise than name her that... if you have doubts about it continue looking for names...that's all

P.S. Blaise IS known to be a boy's name. That's ok though she will be unique.

I think Blaise is a lovely name. It's my name, too. : )

It's not a unique name, but it is rare for a girl. Although it does seem to be getting more popular as a girl's name. Originally, it's a Celtic male name with multiple roots, and several interesting associations.

The common modern spelling, "Blaise," is generally French. The most famous Frenchman named "Blaise" of whom I'm aware is Blaise Pascal, philosopher, mathematician, religious zealot. Its more ancient roots are from the Old Breton (Brittany) word for "wolf" and is variously spelled "Blaez" or "Bleiz." Bleiz is the name of Merlin's (of the King Arthur legend) mysterious teacher, who lived in Northumberland. St. Blaise is the patron saint of throat disorders, among a multitude of things.

As several people have mentioned in their responses, my name is often misspelled as "Blasé" or "Blaze." And, yes, your child may be teased because her name is different. But, frankly, children tease other children for lots of reasons and in lots of ways. It's always difficult, but that's no reason to give your child a bland name. I can tell you that, as an adult, most people I meet seem to like my name, and lots of people think it's cool (or hot, if you prefer : ) ).

I wish you and your baby girl the best!

Well, I like the name! As for sounding like a boy's name, there are more than a few girl's names that started out as boy's names. If you love the name, I say go with it.

I really think it's great because when you say it, it is pronounced "blaze" like a good fire in the heart. It is very unique and I love it. Go with it. When I get a child, I am sure to name it something unique too! Not normal things like "Elizabeth" or "Marc".

Sure, if you want her to be teased growing up. People want to give their kids these "original" names, not considering the psychological toll these little bursts of imagination are going to have on their young lives. Stick to normal names, or plan to spend a lot of money on counseling later in life.

It reminds me of the word "blasé" (blah-zay) which means:

1.Uninterested because of frequent exposure or indulgence.
2.Unconcerned; nonchalant: had a blasé attitude about housecleaning.
3.Very sophisticated.
