Well, people insist that the following grammar is correct:
Everyone must use their fork to spear their potato.
Yet the word "everyone" is singular pronoun and required a singular pronoun. So the correct grammar would be:
Everyone must use his fork to spear his potato.
Now if on the one hand, people can criticize the spelling of potatoe, a commonly used spelling in the 19th Century and even up to 1993, then how can they accept and use the improper grammatical use of plural pronoun to refer to a singular pronoun, i.e. their and everyone are incompatible, IMHO.

The correct spelling of the word is potato. Nous ending in s, ss, ch, sh,* x, and o, form their plural by attaching -es at the end of the word.
