the icon cosists of three books strapped together. the top on is red, the middle one blue and the bottom one is green.

It sounds like a RAR file which is a compressed document. You will need WinRAR to open it. Make sure to run an anti-virus on the file.

I think the icon you are refering is from WinRAR. You can compare with the icon at the following link http://www.rarlab.com/index.htm, right next to the address showed in address bar.
However this does not mean i'm right. Try to remember what did you install before that icon appeared. If in any doubts, better to delete

its a zip file, probably from a backup of some kind .
