I would actually suggest the scupltures of the terracotta warriors (did I spell it right?). The mona lisa is the most popular in the western world, but the most FAMOUS (being the most number of people know about it), you'd have to count Asia. India and China have a lot more than half the worlds population.

if you mean art created by man...then definitely NOT Leonardos Mona Lisa ... there are so many much more beautiful paintings, sculptures, buildings in this world... and to believe that the Mona Lisa is the most famous one, makes Mona Lisa just smile....

I would have to say the Mona Lisa. Even counting the eastern countries of the orient I think you will find few people in the world who do not know or have not seen a copy of this painting.
