I find it quite disturbing and hope those people are not representative of America and the rest of the world...but a subclass of antisocial yahoos. What do you think? I know racism is alive and thriving, but is it as prevalent as it appears on this site?

I'm more shocked at some of the racist answers. I guess it's the anonymity of this set up, but I can't believe anyone would say some of the things I've seen on yahoo answers. I'm about to stop coming on here. It gets my blood pressure up, and I become depressed about the world.

You must not have ever experienced racism to ask if it is a prevlalent as it appears on the site. Racism is alive a kicking in this country and around the world. I wouldn't wanna live in another country, though. Just deal with it. It's nothing you can stop. People will always discriminate and be prejudiced. You can only control you. Don't worry about others---they will have to answer to a Higher calling when the time comes. 'Cause He created ALL of us. And it was good. Look at the "root words" of the words prejudice and discriminate. Prejudice ppl-----Pre-Judge. To discriminate is to use unfavorable treatment based on prejudice.

The possibility to hide the identity have left a window to all the people to ask not only racism, any possible question which could have hurt many peoples personal beings. There is good and bad in everything, we just need to adopt the good things and ignore the bad ones. In this situation ignorance will create the best result you are expecting. Just don't response to anything disturbing and it will eventually fade away from yahoo answer.

Seriously - As an educated white male that has worked both law enforcement and has taught for many years, race is a major issue that we have not come to terms with. The education level of black students at my high school was sadly aweful. I think it is due to a lack of parenting skills and a lack of parental education and lack or respect for what it takes to be a good parent that cares about their child's life and education. A small number of my black students were outstanding students and many of my own students that struggled academically had hearts of gold, but unfortunately many of the black students at my school dropped out before graduation and many showed a lack of respect for others and other's property. The black students would get into more fights, get expelled more for cheating and theft and were much more vocal in the hallways regarding foul language and sexual innuendo. This is a serious problem that needs serious attention. Don't you agree??? Based on all of this, I can see why some people are racist - I myself base each person I meet on their own merits, but I admit that I have moved so that my four children can go to a better school, and that means a school with less black and hispanic students. Some would call that racism - I call it caring about my children's education.

Unfortunately humans are programed (hardwired by evolution) to be racist. There was a Pakistani doctor that wrote a paper on the Neurological Mechanism for Warfare. The premise is that the evolution of tribes favored those who found differences in others (from across the river) and declared war on them. If you beat the others your genes were more likely to propagate. Therefore warfare has warped our genetic makeup to make us more war-like. In our modern world where technology of mass destruction is becoming increasingly available to smaller groups and individuals this is a threat to our survival to our species. We have to come to a universal understanding that we are all one species sharing this small planet to survive. We have to transcend our hardwired evolutionary traits with a new software of understanding. We must all learn to love everyone for who they are. Indeed, they are all us. As we are one species racism is a delusion. We have to learn to get over it. If we fail we will not survive.

My situation is that something written that is adverse or doubtlessly with a view to Mayor Kasim Reed of Atlanta is deleted. With each and each and every of the threats, racial slurs, etc that take position on a daily basis on Yahoo posts, that's suspicious as hell that those repeating of ATL information memories are flagged for deletion!

A large portion of what you are seeing is just people who take great delight in stirring up dissent. The really do not care one way or the other. Which, silly as it sounds is a good thing. They are just bored and immature and they will get a good laugh from people taking their comments seriously. Most of them are actually not racists. Most of this generation of Americans (speaking from my experience) does not think in terms of race until their parents do or say something stupid about another race. In many instances the kids are educating the parents!

You clearly are well protected from the social ills that go on in this world. I know your president " Uncle Bush " is tryna bomb the world for what it's worth and you probably think that is the major issue that needs to be addressed, but in the real world people are still facing judgement for their skin colour. Until you have someone tell you that your " kind " is not welcome in a certain place, then and only then you "may" understand.

I hate to be "non-PC," but isn't this an open forum? I realize that some people are easily offended by words, but we all have to grow up sometime. Words are only offensive when someone chooses to be offended by them. Take the power away from a word, and it becomes just that...a word.
I hope there is an answer in there somewhere...

I think a lot of it is insecurities and that's unfortunately the way people try to make themselves feel better about themselves. Also I believe that It's the way people try to act tuff and some were probably raised around a lot of that by their parents or guardians
