Me and this guy have been going to the same school for three years. We know each other's names and have classes together, and we are connected by mutual friends. We only talk occasionally, but when we do, he acts differently with me as oppose to when he's with his friends. He's quieter and you can tell he thinks before he talks. I know, you'll say it's because he's not used to me, but if we're in a group and he's known the other people for a really long time (like 8 years) , why should one person affect the way he acts? Just bored and curious...

Sounds like one of three things;
1) He's interested in you romantically.
2) He really likes your opinions and wants to speak intelligently with you.
3) You make him uncomfortable in some way or he thinks your hurting in some way and he is trying to be careful what he says.

To me it clearly sounds like he has a crush on you. People tend to get shyer when it comes to one on one with someone they like,but also it could be the fact that he does not know you too well since you said that you two are only connected through mutual friends. Strike up a conversation that can quickly pick the pace up between you too and try to get him to talk and speak up.

I wish more people would think before they speak. What is wrong with that? It just seems to me that he is shy around new people . I am the same way. It takes me a long time to get to know anyone before I feel comfortable around them.

Maybe he likes you. I don't know if you're a guy or a girl (I feel feminine energy coming from you) but I think he likes you and he's trying to see how you feel about him in the conversations you have.
