I don't think it's a joke that they won the cup, they played a great season and won it with plenty of hard work. It's kind of a joke that North Carolina has a hockey team.

They won it fair and square? THAT'S A JOKE! If they didn't take out everyone's best players, the canes would have never seen that cup!! They played dirty, and if you didn't see that, then I'll give you a few excuses..you dont' know the game, you are blind, or you are a canes fan. you choose.
I've spoken to several Canes fans, ...well...fair weather fans...I'm sure they have fans, but most I've spoken to knew nothing about hockey except that they had become fans once they made the playoffs.
my final comment..COMPLETE JOKE

It is a total joke, and a sick one at that. The crybaby 'canes were by far the least deserving Cup winner in recent memory. Their ignorant, fair-weather, nascar-loving "fans" are an even bigger joke than their team. I guarantee you carolina will get nowhere near the Stanley Cup finals again for eons.
The deserving Stanley Cup champions were my proud Buffalo Sabres. If not for a decimated defense corps (they'd lost 4 of their top 5 defensemen to injury) and the loss of our top power play specialist and most creative player (Tim Connolly), we'd have annihilated that arrogant team of luck-out con artists.
And mark my words, a soon as next season -- just a year removed from winning the greatest trophy in all of sports -- the crybaby 'canes will be playing to a half-empty building whilst their so-called "fans" watch college basketball and nascar. Pitiful.

The fans don't make the team, the players do. The best player/team in the NHL deserve to get their name engraved on the Cup, even if they don't have fans.
Once again we hear from the REAL CRYBABIES also called the Buffalo fans. If this happened or if that happened. Hell if the Penguins had been as good as they should have been they would have won the Stanley Cup. Look at the talent at the start of the season. You know what though, all those IFs mean nothing. If ifs and buts were candys and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas. If a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his *** when he jumps. In the end those make as much sense. People get hurt that is part of the game. That's why you have great players and have depth. Yeah you can only get so much on the bench but still you have to be prepared for the worst. I mean come on they had a goalie and the forwards. The best team would have scored more goals and made up for a bad defense.

The Canes rode a hot goalie like a lot of 1 year wonder teams have done in the past but to call it a joke only shows your ignorance. I have watched and played hockey since the early 60's and Carolina played well enough to win although a few teams played well enough to lose along the way. There is too much parody in the NHL to call any winner of the Stanley Cup a joke, give them some credit. You sound like a Leaf's fan..LOL

I think its a joke. If the Oilers would have had Rolie for the entire series, I think the outcome would have been different. Im not saying that the lose was the goalies fault, but losing the guy they were dependent on the entire playoffs was really a morale killer. Anyway, I still think they did a kick *** for doing as good as they did and for coming back in the stanely cup finals. GO OILERS!

No joke Bud! you have to win 16 games in the playoffs to win the cup and that is exactly what they did! they would still deserve it even zero fans showed for the games. If it was such a big joke , why didn't the mighty Detroit red wings win the cup! quit being such cry baby and realize that the best team in hockey won the cup regardless of where they play their games!

Are you upset they won the Cup because the fans don't show up? I didn't know it was prerequisite to have a sell out crowd before you can win a game. It's the fans loss that they could not bother to come but no reason to bash the team because of poor fan attendance.

"seeing as a key player(s) from every team they played (except NJ) was injured, I'd say they were extremely lucky to have made it that far."
Please, the 'Canes didn't have one of their most key players - ERIK COLE - for the entire playoffs (except the last 2 games). So don't use that lame excuse.
"If they didn't take out everyone's best players, the canes would have never seen that cup!!"
WHO??? I don't remember anyone they played that had to miss a game because of a dirty play by Carolina!! If you're talking about Roloson, you're brain-damaged because his own player took him out by slamming a 'Cane into him. Carolina is not an overly physical team - they won because of their speed. Edmonton was definitly the more physical team in the finals - they absolutely punished Carolina with hits most of the time, and got a lot of retaliation penalties out of it (though Edmonton never did anything with them).
As for the fans, some of you must not have watched the same games I watched, because (as demonstrated in this (canada.com) article: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/issuesideas/story.html?id=51fd8238-ca22-4eae-a1df-803eee3bd3c3 ), the fans were as loud as any arena in North America, and it always seemed packed. People from that area know how to cheer for their home teams, and love their sports, including hockey.

Not I. The fans actually did show up and in record numbers. Carolina had the fourth largest attendance spike from '03-'04 to '05-'06, jumping 21%.
The three teams who had more were the Penguins, the Lightning, and Calgary. Carolina had no major addition to their club (unlike Crosby for the Penguins) and weren't coming off of Stanley Cup Finals appearances (like the Lightning and Calgary), so I think they did a heck of a job filling the place. And considering J.D. (John Davidson) said it was one of the loudest places he's ever been to, I think you should reconsider your stance.

i think it was a joke sure the dreams of players like Brind ' Amour came true, but at some playoff games you could go and buy a ticket on game day at the box office so yes it is a joke....we need to get rid of Gary betman and bring in someone who knows about hockey when he came in as commissioner he knew **** about hockey and hes trying to sell the game in the USA for years and its not working and that's why hockey has been falling apart cause he still trying to sell it their...like you look at phoenix coyotes most their fans never seen a skate or hockey stick, you go on the streets in Tampa bay and ask them about the lightning and roughly 70% of them will not no what the hell you are talking about just stuff like that its not selling so get out before the game is ruined..we all ready changed enough rules of this great game for the dumb American to understand it and its been around longer then other American sports and they never got it so give it up.
