If someone broke in your house would you just shootthem in the leg or go for the heart?
If you have a gun of course. What I mean is would you just try to get them on the ground or would you try to automatically kill them.

Assuming your circumstances leave you legitimate reason to kill another man, you use a firearm to effect likely death; this is the surest way to protect yourself.
While I am all for allowing a tense situation to end without incident (perhaps a very good argument for making it clear that you are armed early in a developing confrontation), If at any point you would intend to shoot at (into) someone whom you cannot justifiably kill, I would suggest that your actions are grossly misguided, wrong, and criminal. Just ask yourself this: If you shoot a man in the leg, and he dies of complications from the injury, was his death justified? If not, you'd find yourself short on any sympathy coming from me.
After all, your mother was right when she told you they weren't toys.

Rule 1 - Only draw a gun if you plan to use it.
Rule 2 - Only shoot to kill
The idea is that a gun is not a toy, it is a deadly weapon. People get in trouble when they don't understand this idea.
It should only be used in self defense, when your or someone's life is in danger. In this case you do have the right to kill.
The idea of wounding someone, can get you killed.
The idea of shooting them in the head, is from someone who has been watching too much TV!
A couple of good shots to the chest, should put the average human down.
If you aren't willing to take another one's life, don't own a gun.

It really depends on the trespasser's intention... I mean if he too had a gun...I don't necessarily care for my personal possession, but if he's out to hurt my family, then I might take any necessary action(s).

if he had a gun its free game, if I had a gun and he has none I would try to just wound him so the police can take him and I would get some sort of settlement.

I would rather not kill them...but when it comes to protecting my child I don't think I'd be aiming for any particular part of the body. I would prolly just start shootin at his ***!

Shoot them in the leg.
Then when he's down, I'd shoot his arms and legs some more.
I'd hamburger his limbs, he'll suffer for the rest of his life, living without arms and legs.
Or shoot him in the head and be done with it.
