Jesus asks you to trust all people. I would trust a stranger saying he was Jesus, so long as he'd catch me as soon as I fell over.

No, unless I obviously knew that before talking to him.
You can read about that in several places in the Bible; here are some quotes from Matthew 24:

4. Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.
27. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
30. "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.

Only if he performed some act to prove it was Him. Too many people have come up to me claiming to be Jesus Christ, for me to just believe someone because that's who they say they are.

I hope that if it were truly Him, and you have a small spot for Jesus in your heart, you would know it. I'm pretty sure that Jesus, the Son of God, doesn't/wouldn't perform a miracle like some kind of circus performer just because someone tells him to "prove it".

When people tell people they are Jesus Christ or have heard God's voice, they are locked up and heavily medicated.

I have faith & hope that the Holy Spirit will be there to also guide me in my beliefs.

You are speaking of Jesus, our Lord and God ... I do have strong faith that his presence and deity would be a very strong charism about him which would instantly lead me to accept him as our Lord and Savior.

I also have "Gut" feelings on many of the things I do ... however, I do understand that the Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways not always reveiling everything to me and that I must also exercise my sprituality with my knowledge to solidify my beliefs.

If we went down to the morgue and He raised someone from the dead then I would most likely believe Him yes. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
