Probably close to nothing or a negative amount. They have decided, for the time being, to include almost no ads. Actually, I think it's exactly zero, since I can't really seem to find an ad. They have a slight bit more reach with the search engine hits from the Q&A here, but I don't really see any other sources of revenue.
On the other hand, they have costs of employees, servers, the whole Ask the Planet promo, and so on. It's probably a way for them to drum up more traffic and sort of compete with Google Answers because they have to do that sort of thing. If it's a negative profit, you should be paying to using it, but it's free.

Actually it costs thousands of dollars every day to maintain Yahoo! Answers open.
They hope in the future it will be a Billion Dollar Business but it will take several years to get there.
There are very few ads on Yahoo! Answers.
Also if you want to get a small cut of the profits Yahoo! makes just buy some Yahoo! shares.
If you don't know how just ask!

well since there is minimal advertising on the pages of yahoo answers and there is no advertising allowed from askers and answerers they make very little. Realistically it is a write off for them as it is a service and they make very little I would assume...
If anything they should pay us to have our email... since we are
bombarded with their advertising every time we use it ... :)

yeah they should pay, but the problem is how to implement that. I think they should do something like a lotto and to give you a ticket for each answer that you give
