A little 4 year old boy was riding a lown mower with dis dad . On the way back to there pown the boy fell off. When he fell the mower deck got turned on. The boy lost one finger , right arm cut up very badly and his keg at the knee almost cut off. Twe opperations later they may still have to cut off the keg.
One week later a 3 year old girl was walking behind her dad on a riding mower , and he backed over her. She had to have her foot cut off by doctores. Do you think there should be a law that children can not be around mowers ?

Unfortunately, one cannot legislate against stupidity.

(And yes, I do ... but ... wouldn't stop people)

No. There should be a law against stupid parents...I know that sounds like a glib answer to your question but it is not meant to be. It is only common sense. Just last week I asked my husband if my 13 yr old son was old enough to weed-eat (Hubby has been working alot of hours and I was planning to give extra allowance for the chore) My husband said no it was too dangerous. This is just something you should know like don't let them ride in the back of a truck. These stories are very sad and I feel for the parents but what were they thinking?
Isn't it amazing (no reflection on these parents - I know accidents happen and hindsight is 20/20) that you have to have your home inspected to get a dog from the shelter?

I can see a law prohibiting children under the age of 14 operating a mower without parental consent. But how well would such a passed law be enforced? Will that law go like the one prohibiting drivers from using cellphones while in motion--where the workaround is to get tinted windows?

I support ANY laws protecting children--as long as those laws are actively enforced....and the guilty adults/parents face strict stiff penalties.

How would a law have prevented either of the accidents detailed in your question? Any adult who would permit a child to be in the positions described probably would not care about the laws. Plus, how would that be policed? Should police officers drive through neighborhoods to see who has a child on or near a mower? I'm not saying it's not tragic, but I don't understand how it can be regulated.

there should be a law against idiotic parents.
young boys should be able to cut the lawn ,
i used to love it when i was 12 ,and it precedes driving a car
but you are right kids under ten should be forbidden to be any where near it
some of these machines are very power full and heavy ,and easily go beyond the control of a small boy or even an adult

You have to have training and or a license to drive a car, ride a motorcycle, an ocean tanker, a firetruck, to be a barber, a beautician, and many other things in life.

No license or training is required to be a parent and own a child which is totally dependent on you.

No. Our USA is turning into a dictator of laws. The laws are beginning to be ignored, even by our officials. Like ILLEGAL immigration for example.....we are being viewed as a JOKE

Absolutely! And there should be a penalty for parents stupid enough to allow it.
