perhaps you have a cyst or something that has developed..those can cause pain during sex...but you can't know that unless you go to the doctor...
So I would schedule an appointment even if the pain does go away..just because there is no pain, doesn't mean there is not a problem..
Good luck!

Don't wait--see your ob/gyn doctor as soon as possible. Be sure when you call to make the appointment you let the receptionist know you are having serious, ongoing vaginal pain so she can get you in ASAP. If you don't have an ob/gyn, call your primary care physician for an appointment. From experience I know don't put it off and that it can be so painful it feels like the proverbial red-hot poker being stuffed up inside you.
You don't say your age, but you may have endometrosis which is when the uterine lining attaches itself to other organs such as the ovaries. It can be removed by surgery and may not necessarily result in a hysterectomy which is another reason you don't want to waste time.
Another possibility is that you could have fibroids which are benign tumors that grow in the uterus. They can be removed by surgery and may or may not reoccur. Your doctor would have a better idea after the surgery when he can examine them for size, etc. With all the latest surgical techniques available I'd hate to hazard a guess what a hospital stay length could be. It may depend on where you live and where you have the surgery performed.
Good luck, and I hope it's nothing too serious. Hopefully your boyfriend is supportive & solicitious of you and will wait for full intercourse until you have doctor's approval. There are always other positions/techniques you can have fun with so neither is deprived of intimacy.

Do you have Endometriosis? See http://www.endocenter.org/endofaq.htm for information on the disease, a partial list of symptoms, help, info, support, etc.
Other reasons for dyspareunia include vaginismus, inadequate lubrication, pelvic inflammatory disease or other infection, urinary tract infection, or as a reaction/side effect to certain medications.
There may also be a psychological component as well, but most likely you have a physical reason that can be treated successfully. Good luck.

Well, after going to the OBGYN to rule out any STD's or other abnormalities.,It's possible that he may be practicing rough sex ie jackrabbit sex. It's not for everyone, but one can get used to it if one chooses. Take care of yourself, try different positions and styles. Good luck.

Get to a gynecologist right a way. Could be fibroid tumors or pelvic inflammatory disease
