Because babies have no worries and nothing to feel guilty about, so if you are guilt and worry free you sleep like a baby. That is what the saying originally meant.....it has evolved into nonsense over time.

the expression is the peacefulness that babies have when they sleep, not a care in the world and very restful. You are right babies don't sleep too much in the beginning

Obviously, you've never seen a baby sleep through a jackhammer, the garbage truck picking up, and dogs barking outside your open window on a summer morning. It's amazing how they can sleep through just about anything sometimes!

haha.. good one. I have 2 kids and one of them is still a baby. Who knows why they say that. Maybe those who never had children say that? But when babies sleep it's quite sweet and they seem so content, so maybe that's why that expression came about.

Maybe they should say sleep like a full baby. Cause when babies get their tummys full they sleep thur the night.
