Not only did I spend my birthday last year alone, but I was also in a very strange foreign country! I just went shopping for DVD's and treated myself to a relaxing day watching movies and eating excellent food to go!
Also go on the net and brag about your birthday :)

I regard my birthday as my special day that I reserve for myself. When I was working I'd take the day off, set the whole day aside for things I wanted to do, and then go do things like see a movie, or play, or concert I wanted to see, or go to a favourite restaurant and treat myself to something special. I'd also try to do some flying with a World War 2 aviation museum I was involved with at the time, or even pay $25 to go up in a Cessna just so I could get in some flying, simply because I love doing it so much.
One thing I've always tried to do, even if I couldn't do the other things I've listed (which I can't really do much anymore as I'm no longer working and am on a permanent disability pension), is try to treat myself to a small gift; maybe a book, or a CD, or a DVD, or even a plastic model airplane kit.
The thing is it's YOUR day. Holidays like Christmas, New Years, and Thanksgiving are basically family get-togethers, but your birthday, even if there's no one around to share it with you, is yours, so I say celebrate and enjoy it!
Cheers,
N.

Spending your birthday alone. That can be very sad or you can make it a very special day. It will be your choice. The last few years I have spent my birthday and holidays alone. This is what I do to make them special for me.
1. Prior to the occassion I decide on my own birthday present to myself. Either make plans to shop for it that day or if you purchase it before hand it stays in the bag till the special day.
2. Plan ahead to make yourself a special breakfast. Yes, that might mean slicing your own fruit, warming up your own croissants, and opening your own bottle of champagne but make sure that these items are served with your best china and crystal all laid out on special linens.
3. The same goes for your favorite meal. Again you have a choice either you go out to dinner or you prepare your special menu just the way you like it. Again set the table with china, crystal, linen and flowers.
4. Call everyone in your address book and tell them it is your birthday and that you are having a great day.
It is surprising what a positive frame of mind will do for a solitary birthday.
PS - Don't forget your favorite cake and ice cream.
Good luck and enjoy your special day.

Oh! I would never want to spend my birthday alone and would never let anyone that I knew, liked or loved spend their birthday alone. Birthdays are a special celebration of someone's life, and the guest of honor should be made to feel as loved and valued as possible.

However you want. I wish i could spend Birthdays alone. For me it's like a day of remembrance over my life. For others it's a party. I like to be alone on my birthday. But unless I get trapped alone in an elevator, it's not gonna happen.
If you are able to do this, go celebrate yourself. Do the things you love to do.

Sadly.
No, actually, I get homemade cards from my kids every year, and I've saved every one. Sometimes we even all go out to dinner. My husband always gives me a really nice mushy card on my birthday...if only the words were true...

If your a girl, take yourself to your favorite mall and buy whatever you feel like, because i'm guessing most of the time you'll save money when it's NOT your birthday..so enjoy yourself THAT day by going shopping. =)

I go to the top of Mount Soledad in San Diego and come to peace with myself and the world. For one moment on my special day, I can come to terms with the wonderfulness of me. I can't control what comes before or after that moment. But I can have that space of time to myself.
