Like most people, when i perspire my armpits begin to smell like a potent pot of boiling French Onion soup. The parking lot attendee at Disney world said he removed the French Onion soup smell by using a 50/50 mixture of bleach and chlorine. Not only did this eat a hole through my designer Cashmere shirt but i was also thrown out of the laundromat after complaints of other patrons having a burning sensation in their eyes and trouble breathing. All I want to do is remove this smell because it offends other people...what can i do ?

Bleach works but there are various types of bleach. Try "color-fast" bleach which is borax based rather than sodium hypochlorite or "chlorine" based. Peroxide based bleach is also effective but it is more expensive.

But before you try any bleach, try soaking in regular detergent. Spray the areas with a concentrated solution and let it soak. Or wash it in really hot water. Prespiration, and the oils that gives off the smell should be washable if you just used enough soap and a good rinse.

Soak your shirts in water and 20 Mule Team Borax (found in the laundry soap aisle) for one hour before washing them. Then wash as usual.
