I have driven it a bunch of times from Maryland. I recommend taking I-64 West to I-70 West in St Louis; follow I-70 until it runs into I-15 in Utah, then take I-15 South. You will probably want to stop for the night in St Louis (area), and Denver (area). Its a 12 hour drive from Denver to Vegas.

I-70 has some of the best scenery you will ever see when you get west of Denver in Glenwood Springs and also in Utah just before you get to I-15. Watch your gas gauge and look for a fillup when you get to just under half a tank. Gas stations are few and far between. There is one stretch on I-70 after you pass Grand Junction, Co where you will see a sign that says no gasoline for the next 100 miles and that sign is accurate.

FLY! - just kidding - Go north to Pittsburg on I79 to I80 and go west then look at a map, once you get past Chicago!
