my opinion: 1. they got beat by a better goalie. a hot goalie will beat even the top seed in the west.
2. zetterberg, datsyuk and shanny did not show up to play. they were invisible as was most of the team.
3. they gelled too early in the regular season
4. too old and slow
5. winning the president's trophy cursed them
the statistics tell a different story for the best record. they played the three crappiest teams 24 times and won most of them. they play in the weakest division. they were not challenged enough and could not measure themselves against the more tougher teams. winning the president's trophy doesn't always mean the team will win the cup. what it takes to win the stanley cup is motavation, a hot goalie, a team who plays as one unit , great defense and great defense. those factors detroit did not have. don't get me wrong.. they are a good team but they are getting too old and slow. i love the wings and will always be a fan even if they rebuild and lose.

The Wings have a tendency to shine in the regular season and then choke early in the playoffs. It's great to have a good record, but it's the playoffs that count. If the Wings would throw themselves into their early round games the way they do in the regular season, Detroit might just win some more Cups.

Well jesuslover there goaltendin was not up to par. Also Roloson was fantastic in net and for some reason when Detroit faces a goalie that is playing his best hockey they end up panicing and eventually losing the series. In hockey anything is possible thats why its the only team sport where the lowest seed going into the playoffs can beat the highest seed. Thats why the NHL playoffs are so great anybody can win.

Edmonton is a young fast team. The Wings just looked like they were in slow motion. The more important question is "Why does every team the Wings face in the playoffs have a goalie that plays out of his gourd?" We always win the SOG but that doesn't seem to be enough. Wings will rule the ice next year.

It had less to do with the Red Wings and more to do with Edmonton's Roloson in net. If you run into a hot goalie in the playoffs, you're done, as the Red Wings learned pretty quickly. Edmonton was gritty and their goalie was top notch.

Manny Legace did a good job on his end, but he was simply going up against a goalie who was playing three feet over his head. It will be interesting going forward how good the Red Wings will be with so many older veterans on their club's roster.

They had to easy of a season. When they got to the tougher clubs they wre not prepared.
They thought they would roll past Edmonton as they were the 8th seed.
They got lazy and thats that. I also blame the coaching and managment in this to. On the teams behalf they did have quite a few injuries around that time, but the managment sent Lebda back to the Griffons, Cross never even played and he was a healthy scratch. to many things to list really.

One thing that a lot of people do not realize about sports events,"Anyone can be beaten on any given day",regardless of a teams regular season play when it comes to playoffs it is an entirely different game and then there is always luck which plays such an important roll in any given sports event and for proof of this statement look at the current FIFA situation.

I really think the defense of the Wings combined with the excellent Oiler's goal tending contributed to the Wing's downfall.

their record during the regular season was overrated. They compiled like 30 points against the league weakest teams They were / are in a weak division . There was no real competition other than Nashville for them .

Duh, they are called the Red Wings....it was their time of the month, lol! Didn't you see the attitude they got toward the end? They knew it was there time so they were focusing more on causing the other team to bleed like they were, didn't you see the teeth hit the camera lense? Hostility, I tell yah, that'll get the best of yah.
