The smaller you are, the faster the heart tends to beat; that's why babies heart rates are so fast. On the other hand, an obese person who just walked up the stairs would be beating pretty fast too. It depends; everyone has a baseline. Take a resting heart rate, after sitting for a few minutes, if you haven't eaten/drank any caffeine or other things to make the heart rate increase and see what it is. This is your "normal" heart rate.

I think you mean per minute.....if it was beating 97 beats per second that would be 5820 beats per minute.
97 beats per minute is a little high unless you were exercising prior to checking your pulse. Resting beats per minute is usually around 70 to 80.

It's impossible for your heart to be beating 97 beats per second.
Your heart must be bearting at 97 beats per minute.
It's a little high, but if you sit down and chill out you'll be fine.

No it's not true. Your baby's heartrate will change throughout the pregnancy. At my first appointment, my baby's heart rate was 157 and now at 24 weeks it averages around 145 - I'm having a boy!

Normal for someone that's not getting much exercise.
An athlete has a pulse between 60-70.
If it goes past 120, you should see a doctor immediately.

It depends on what you were doing before you took your pulse. Pulse rate is affected by many things. I would suggest laying down for a while and relaxing, then take your pulse again. I wouldn't rush to the emergency room quite yet.

Normal on average? No.
But some people just have a higher bpm... If you're under 18, it's probably simply because of that. Also, so medications make your heartbeat faster.
