I have had problems with ants in every apartment and house I have lived in. But only for a short time and never again after that.

My solution is :Borom found in dry laundry detergents and also sold as a laundry supplement. Take the powder and put it everywhere little pest can be coming in. I usually put it along the baseboard, in the fireplace (they love the brick), and any where there are crevices that they could get in. Make sure your children and pets do not have access to this powder, including their little hands and paws. Use ant traps in the corners as a reassurance and leave the powder in place for a week or so. If these critters are in your cabinets: place the powder down and then put shelf paper or wrapping paper over it. Keep your glasses upright to avoid contaminating your glasses. If they are in your pantry discard anything they have gotten into. And be sure to keep everything enclosed with tight lids.

Your not done yet. Next you should put this highly poisonous chem outside next to the house and any where you see them running around.

You will most like only need one application inside, but outside it is seasonal or more often. This saves a lot of money; doing it your self and you know where all the poison is so you could clean it up later. It is the most effective method I know. In one apartment building everyone else kept getting the ants back after the exterminator came ...not me. Good bye anties.

Be very careful about spraying anything in your kitchen ... can make you very sick.

Ants leave little chemical trails for their relatives to follow ... hence the ants go marching in a line ...
Whenever you can do it, wipe the area they are in with Windex to kill the trails.

Then ... go get some "food grade" (kitchen safe) Pyrethrum spray at the hardware store. Spray some regular white sugar mixed with borax, let it dry and place it where the ants are. They will take it back to the nest, feed it to the Queen and she will die along with all the other ants who eat it.

If you just want to keep them out, try a line of Cayenne Pepper Powder.... they won't cross it.

first find the hole they are coming in then sprinkle pepper in front of the hole(they cant stand the smell) then put like one or 2 ant baits around the area and if an6y come past the pepper they take the bait back to the ant nest and it slowly kills the rest and eventually the queen.

Grits work the best. No ant killer or pest control service can beat grits.
