Not in human beings. While parthenogenesis can occur in other species, especially in simpler lifeforms such as the hydra-- and as another poster noted is commonly seen in species of skinks and geckos where males are absent-- human being cannot reproduce through such methods.

And, thus far we cannot reproduce viable sperm, nor can we clone human DNA in any meaningful way, so we have to obtain both gametes the old fashioned way and go straight to the source (that is, a male and a female).

Actually, besides asexual reproduction, which is present in many species, there is a species of lizards that is all females, and they reproduce on their own. But in order to become 'pregnant', they must act like they're mating, therefore hump each other... And biologically- their bodies think they are having sex and start to harvest an egg.

Oh, the odd things you find on Animal Planet.

As for humans.. I don't know. That was just a cool fact that I thought of!

homo sapiens have always had two sexes, male and female. About the only way a woman could get pregnant without directly contacting a male is artificial insemination. While she wouldn't have to touch or come in contact with the male, she would still need the male's contribution.

That does not occur in humans. There are lots of asexual species, however.

Well, if women were asexual - wouldn't they not really be "women" then?
