Ok first off maybe I should explain my current situation, im 19 with $3,000 in my pocket and I want to buy a car. My neighbor is selling his 1991 560SEC for $2,500. We live in wisconin and there seems to be a tiny bit of rust above the left rear tire, and the car needs a new set of tires. My dad being the little evil asain man that he is, is advising that i should pass and possibly buy something like a used accord. Claming that maintenace on a almost 20yr old merc is going to kill my unemployed butt! Plus im going to college so its like ugh will i really need it? Anyway not buying a car is not a option, and I really love the CL655 and the SEC does remind me of a ancient variation of one (they both have no B pillar) should I buy??

Well after takin that thing to the dealer, i'm a little scared but still interested. The guy inspected it for $80 (unfair in my opinion but whatever), and told me that it needed new brake pads and rotors or he said he could "turn" the old ones (???), a alignment (free with new tires), and a new timing chain (which explained a weird sound at startup but also is normal at 125,000 miles (according 2 him)). Everything else is fine, I think i'll purchase ONLY if this guy gives me another thousand off (bringing the price down to $1,500). He's recently divorced and is moving out of town so, i'm sure he wants to sell it. Also i dont think im being unfair considering how much these "expected" problems are to fix. I understand and thank u all 4 the advise, but if he gives me my price im goin 4 it. That is unless someone has a horror story about a SEC exploding or something, then it's camry here I come!

the 560sec is a beautiful car but at it's age, like an old beautiful woman it might need: a nose job[under the hood], boob job/implants[rust treatment, parts replacement], tummy tuck[per gas consumption] and others. i think a first car should be enjoyable, i also think a used merc is not an ideal first car. it will shock you with running costs and i think your dad is right[ i'm not supporting him particularly] but he told you what i would tell myself if i was 19 and had only? $3000 to buy a car with. by the way i own a 15 year old benz and it's hell. trust me. get a honda[accord or civic] or toyota[corrolla, carina or camry]. when your degree is under your belt and you've paid for your education who knows, the cl65 might be on your driveway and it wont be 20 years old yet! best wishes, realdude.[ my father once owned a 560sec and i had my first car [190E] at 19]

Once an older Benz starts rusting, there's no way to stop it without MAJOR expense. Any other repairs on that marque are going to be very expensive as well.

The price is so low for a reason -- about 25% of typical blue book, that should tell you a lot just by itself.

I'd say that your dad (asain? what's that?) knows his stuff; you might want to listen to him, but that's up to you...

My best advice is to contact your nearest Mercedes Benz Car Club ( or whatever it might be called). Tell them EVERYTHING - you're only 19 and going to college etc. Ask if they would recommend it GIVEN YOUR SITUATION. If so, ask them if someone could come out and inspect it. They'll know everything to lookout for. I've owned a used MB and they're beautiful to drive but if they need repairs .... yes, very expensive ( at least if you fix something, you know it won't break again). Good luck and let us know the result!

I drove a new bottom of the range Mercedes when I was getting my Degree way back when. I have to admit I didn't like it (It was a gift). It was a great car but didn't suit my personality. I would have preferred a little Toyota and vanished into the crowed. Besides my father couldn't stop complaining every time he saw it. It always had to be spotless.

Absolutely not. You don't have the resources to fix or maintain a car like this. It's a money pit and a gas hog.

Run away, run away, you'll be glad you listened to me. Or just take the $3,000 and set it on fire and accomplish the same thing, just a little faster.

the two certainly one of the different solutions are excellent. you may desire to replace the fuse with the same AMP fuse that got here out. The fuse is the link that blows whilst some thing makes use of to a lot potential. it quite is designed to maintain the wiring from over heating and catching hearth. putting in a extra robust AMP fuse is inquiring for problems. The blower motor on that motor vehicle is extra cases than no longer the reason at the back of your problem.
