I have lived with the same woman for 35 years. I don't know if anyone can "pretend" for that long.

I don't think that many people even give a thought to whether they are or aren't "pretending" to like other people, unless they are involved in a socially interactive situation with that person. Obviously, many people demonstrate attitudes toward others that may contradict their true feelings (i.e. putting on a happy face). However, liking or disliking others tends to go in both directions. For example, you've probably liked someone when you met them, then ended up disliking them later for some reason. Conversely, you've probably also disliked someone at first, only to be impressed by them later and grew to like them. Therefore, I have trouble believing that we all just "pretend" to like people. To my knowledge, hermits are somewhat of a rarity.
I think that, deep inside, we all realize that we are interdependent--if not interconnected--with those around us.

I never pretend. There are people in my community whom I absolutely abhor! When they are in the same area I am in, I ignore them, if they speak, I ignore them, if they try to get my attention, I look right at them and turn away. I have no respect what so ever for these people and they don't deserve a second of my time other than for me to tell you about how I handle them.

Cold? Yes. And proud of it. Now ask me about the people I like! Would die for any one of them. I would get up in the middle of the night and drive for hours to reach them if their car broke down. I would give my last dime and the shirt off my back for them.

I'm not pretending to like people. And I'm not pretending not to like them, either. I'm just not a people person. At all.

I can think of a lot of people that I don't like, but that doesn't mean I'd rather see them dead, or that I hate them. There are people I like more than others, and that's why they are my friends. Everyone else, there's a level of politeness that is expected in society, especially at work, that I have to follow, or else I will go to jail, or lose my job. It's not so much pretense as it is blackmail! Be nice to me or you'll pay! lol

some people I like some times,
Most people I dont like most of the time.

We pretend to get what we can from the situation, be polite, or have no other choice but to get along.

I think that most people do really like people. After all, human are social beings! I can say that I like most people and try to see the good in them.

Believe it or not there are a ton of beautiful, sincere, and geniunly caring souls on the face of this earth. If you are ever in a desperate situation, hopefully, you will discover and appreciate how valuable one human being can be to another!
